River's Edge Men's Basketball

Saturday mornings! 9-11 a.m.  Put on your high tops, warm up your jumpin' feet and come join the neighborhood Men's Basketball fellowship.  Hosted by Ascension in partnership with River's Edge Fellowship. Usually held all but the 4th Saturday of the month in the Family Life Center.

Heit's Point

One of the ministries our church enjoys and supports is a Lutheran camp located about 100 miles away in Lincoln, MO. Started in the early 80's, built on donated land, it includes all the things campers need  -- cabins and campgrounds, a pool, lake access with boating, even horses and a lovely outdoor chapel.

Ascension members built a pavilion called the "Ascension Haus" which adds to the setting.  Throughout the year, groups often hold retreats at the camp - near enough and yet far enough away to make it a great weekend getaway.

Heit's Point Happenings/Opportunities

SUMMER CAMPS are just around the corner. Please visit the Heit's Point website to register soon and get an "Early Bird" discount! From Horse Camps and Family Camp, to Paint Ball and Night Owl Camps, there's something for everyone to "Strengthen the Connection With the Vine." This years camp theme is IGNITE and we look forward to seeing many of you down at the lake.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES abound at Heit's Point. With Spring upon us, the ministry has a great need for people to mow the grounds, open the camp sites, clean and prepare all facilities and the waterfront, and so much more. Whether you want to help out as a individual, with your family or with a group of your friends from your Sunday School class, Heit's Point is YOUR camp and we would appreciate any and all help as we serve our Lord and Savior. If this sounds like the opportunity to serve that you've been looking for, contact our Executive Director, Mark Nolte, to find out which opportunity best fits your schedule.

Your FINANCIAL SUPPORT is important to the ministry of Heit's Point. Direct donations are always greatly appreciated, but if you are a Thrivent member, please consider directing your Choice Dollars to the ministry. Additionally, please consider applying for Thrivent Actions Team projects. Action Teams afford you the opportunity to combine volunteer opportunities with financial support of the ministry. If this sounds like something that might interest you, please contact our Executive Director, Mark Nolte, to discuss the many Action Team project opportunities. You can also contact Gary Pumphrey, Treasurer for the Heit's Point Board of Directors(816-682-9963) for more information and help through the application process.

Altar Guild Vacancies

The Altar Guild has a couple of vacancies and is looking for two volunteers.  This would be for between Services for the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of the month.  You would refill a tray of individual cups and wash the common cup.  Please contact Bev Mettlen at (816) 803 2568, if you would be willing to serve on the Altar Guild.

Ushers Needed

We have recently updated the ushering guidelines and usher teams. While most of the usher duties can be accomplished with two ushers, up to four are needed at various points in every service, and having "extra" trained ushers would help ensure services go smoothly. With this in mind, we have several openings for God's servants to join an usher team in both services. Men, women and senior youth are all encouraged to consider this opportunity to serve in God's house. If this sounds like something you would be interested in doing, please contact the appropriate usher coordinator (Bill Conroy - early service/Gary Pumphrey - late service) and we'll assist in your placement on a team.

Royals Baseball:  May 24

Ascension Elders have set their annual Royal's outing for May 24th.  The Royals are playing the Yankees, on a Friday night at 7:15pm... Buck Night, Fireworks and a ball cap giveaway for the first 10,000. We've reserved a tailgating spot in Lot N, space A-2.  Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided and everyone brings something to add to the "potluck".  We can coordinate shuttles to take people from our tailgate to the stadium the day of the game. We have purchased view box tickets in section 421 on view level, right behind home plate.  The Royals placed our seating to minimize steps... our rep told me only 4 to 5 steps to climb to our rows. Tickets are $25 (less than the $38 last year).  Hope you can join us!  Since the game is with the Yankees, a Buck Night with Fireworks and a ball cap giveaway, be sure to get your tickets now.  See Doug Rinas to purchase tickets.
