Trinity was, is and will be the blessed Name of God. Forever 3-in-1 and 1-in-3, Father, Son and Holy Spirit..
Sunday June 12 is Trinity Sunday, the Sunday of the church year that we recognize and give thanks for more than a doctrine or an historical theological concept. The 3 in 1 and 1 in 3 God means salvation and life, forgiveness and grace available for all people.
We confess in three ecumenical (universal Christian) creeds that have been given to generation after generation for almost two millennia, accurately summarizing what the Church professes: One eternal omnipotent omnipresent omniscient God Who made the universe, saved the world through becoming what He created so that He could be the perfect sacrifice for all people, rising up from the dead and sending the Holy Spirit to work faith in people through Word and Sacrament, to the glory of the Heavenly Father. All One True God in Three Persons, a total mystery.
And this God--the only God--is three persons of one essence. To go any further would put me perilously on the edge of orthodoxy and into a reason-oriented human categorizing of a deep and great mystery I cannot comprehend. I merely assent, believe, teach and confess it, but more than that, I seek His will for my life. And He seeks my good and the good of all. His ultimate good is that we spend eternity with Him on a new earth, remade without sin corrupting it, neither being subject to illness, suffering, sadness and other things we struggle with on this side of heaven.
Praise be to the eternal Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, 3-in-1 and 1-in-3. Blessings to you this and all days.
