SENIOR SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS

September 8 – Is long-term care insurance necessary?

Dawn addressed questions and debunked myths about long-term care insurance. For instance,

  • long-term care is NOT medical care; it's assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, drinking, etc.
  • It's estimated that 7 out of 10 people turning 65 will use some sort of long-term care but fewer than 2 out of 10 have insurance to cover this need.
  • What are the costs of this care today?
  • Do you have the means to pay for it if/when you need it?
  • How can you plan ahead to pay for this type of care?
  • Is it ever too late - meaning, so expensive you can't afford to buy coverage?

While Dawn does work for a local insurance agency, she was not here to sell us insurance! (We're very upfront with our guest speakers - no selling!)

About Dawn: Originally from Canada, nothing short of true love persuaded Dawn to come to the States.  She and her husband, Michael will celebrate their 20th anniversary in April. She enjoys traveling, cooking, baking, and getting lost in a good book. Her philosophy is that, sooner or later, we all find our way to help others, and she discovered hers is to come alongside families and help them protect their futures.

She states, “Over the last 13 years, I’ve seen a lot of change in the Long Term Care Insurance world.  I’ll go over the options that are currently available and we’ll talk about the pros and cons of each.  The good news is that there are some great solutions available that can be customized to fit your needs and budget.  Having money available to pay for care really eases the burden on the family and I think that is just as big of a factor as protecting your finances.  As an independent agent, I am not tied to any one company and since I don’t work on commission I am able to have an absolutely “zero-pressure” approach that my clients appreciate tremendously.”
